SIG is the most "Game Theory" focused firm. Founded by Poker players, they teach new hires poker strategy as part of training. They look for rational decision makers under uncertainty.

Tech Stack

Core: C++ / C# (.NET is surprisingly common).
Style: Very pragmatic, less "academic" than Two Sigma.

The Interview Process

  1. Online Assessment:Math test. Lots of mental arithmetic.
  2. Phone Screen (Game Theory):"I have a deck of cards. You draw 2 cards..." "What is the expected value of this game?" "Would you play this game for $20?" (They test risk aversion!).
  3. Onsite:Expect to play actual games/betting scenarios. The interviewer might take out a coin or a die. They will ask you to make a market on the outcome.

Poker Logic: The Pot Odds

The pot is $100. Your opponent bets $50. You must call $50 to win $150 (Total Pot $200).
What equity do you need to call?
(You are risking $50 to win $200 total → 25%).

Game Theory: The Pirates

5 pirates (A, B, C, D, E) must divide 100 gold coins. They are rational, greedy, and bloodthirsty. A proposes a split. If < 50% agree, A is thrown overboard.
What is the maximum number of coins A can keep?
(Hint: Work backwards from 2 pirates).
